Why it's dangerous
These drugs act as hypnotics that affect the central nervous system; while intended for sedation, they often cause paradoxical agitation or severe depression of respiratory and cardiovascular systems in pets.
Toxic compound: Benzodiazepines or non-benzodiazepine hypnotics
Good to know
In cats, certain benzodiazepines can lead to acute liver failure. Paradoxical excitement (agitation/aggression) is common in pets despite these being sedative drugs for humans.
