Why it's dangerous
The plant contains colchicine alkaloids which interfere with cell division and can cause multi-organ failure. All parts of the plant remain toxic even when dried, with the highest concentrations in tubers and seeds.

Good to know
Not part of the lily family that causes kidney failure, but contains colchicine similar to the Autumn crocus. Tubers and seeds are most toxic.
