Why it's dangerous

Toxins are released from the toad's parotid glands and skin when mouthed or chewed, leading to rapid absorption through mucous membranes and affecting the cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Good to know

Poisoning can occur just by mouthing the toad or drinking water from a container a toad sat in. Marine toads are particularly lethal.
