How vets treat it

Immediate oxygen therapy if available at the scene followed by urgent veterinary care. Do not attempt rescue if it endangers human life.

Why it's dangerous

Inhaled chemicals and particulate matter cause severe lung injury, inflammation, and upper airway swelling, while carbon monoxide and cyanide lead to brain hypoxia and secondary neurologic damage.
